Aldi opens new store at The Elysian creating 20 new jobs
Cork now has more Aldi stores than any other county in Ireland.
Aldi Stores (Ireland) today opened a new store in Ireland’s tallest building, the landmark Elysian in Cork’s city centre, creating 20 new jobs.
Bringing the total number of Aldi stores in Ireland to 113, the new store is Aldi’s 18th store in Co. Cork. Cork now has more Aldi stores than any other county in Ireland. The first Aldi stores in Ireland opened in November 1999.
To celebrate the opening of the new store, Aldi was joined by a number of its Cork based suppliers, who served customers with free tasty treats throughout the morning. Producers in attendance included, Coolmore Foods of Bandon, which supplies muffins and carrot cake to Aldi, Veronica’s Snacks which supplies Aldi with yummy healthy nibbles and snacks, Carbery of Ballineen, which supplies Aldi with high quality cheese and Bandon Co-op which supplies Aldi’s creamy butter. Aldi has established solid roots in many of Ireland’s local communities having developed longstanding partnerships with numerous Irish producers.
RedFM’s Red Patrollers were also on site with plenty of games and balloons for the kids, while five lucky Aldi shoppers scooped €100 each in Aldi shopping vouchers.
Speaking at the store opening, Karl Browning, Manager of Aldi’s new store at The Elysian said, “Buying fresh, quality Irish foods in Cork just got easier thanks to the opening of our new Aldi store. Each Aldi store we have opened so far has been a fantastic success and we are looking forward to serving the local community.”
A proud supporter of Irish producers, Aldi has tripled its annual spend on Irish products over the past five years, helping maintain over 22,000 jobs across the Irish food industry. Since 2008 Aldi has almost doubled the number of Irish suppliers it works with. Over 50% of Aldi’s supplier spend is with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers. All of Aldi’s fresh meats, fresh poultry, eggs, bread, flour, and many of its teas, coffees, soft drinks, waters and snacks come from leading Irish suppliers.
Aldi’s Irish products have a strong track record of dominating national and international food awards. Aldi is the most awarded Irish retailer in the last five years across the Great Taste Awards, Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards and the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards.
