Sleeping Beauty

Panto runs from Saturday 13th December

Cork Opera House and New Ireland Assurance are delighted to officially launch this season’s Panto Sleeping Beauty!Eagerly awaited by thousands of young fans who flock to see it each year, Trevor Ryan and his creative team present this enchanting fairytale that will leave you spinning.  Trevor is no stranger to the Opera House stage but takes the directorial reigns for the first time this year, “Panto season is my favourite time of the year! Spending 8-10 hours a day in rehearsals with some of the country’s finest singers and comedic performers is a pure delight!” said Ryan ahead of the grueling rehearsal schedule.

Unlike poor Sleeping Beauty, audience members will be kept wide awake and entranced as this magical tale unfolds before their eyes in yet another spectacular and elaborate pantomime presented at the Opera House.

Once upon a time in a pantoland far, far away, the beautiful princess Beauty was born.

When the time came for her to be christened, an uninvited guest – the evil Malefizent, cursed the princess so that on her 18th birthday she would prick her finger and fall into a deep sleep for 100 years.

What could possibly undo such a dastardly curse?  Trevor and his creative team are proud to bring you a spectacular production featuring stunning scenery and costumes and awe inspiring special effects!  This production will be a magical musical rollercoaster ride for all the family featuring hilarious comedy, dynamic dancing and toe-tapping tunes!

Many seasoned panto stalwarts lead the way onstage including Ireland’s foremost Panto Dame Frank Mackey as Nanny Nellie, Michael Joseph as Bundles, Alex Sharpe as the evil Malefizent, Michael Grennell as King Cedric, Jason Broderick as Prince Kristoff and introducing Katie Honan as Beauty.

Spectacular dance routines are guaranteed under the creative eye of choreographer Neil O’Brien, along with cutting edge Musical Direction by David Hayes, who will once again ensure a world class production on the Cork Opera House stage. As usual, the cast will be joined onstage by a full troop of young Panto stars, composed of students from The Montfort College of Performing Arts, Cork Arts Studio, Centre Stage School, Cork School of Dance, ELJ Academy of Dance, Wolfe Stage School, The Performers Academy and The Sinead Sheppard School of Dance.
